Staying Fit is Not As Difficult As You Imagine

By Ron Holden

How many times have you taken those New Year resolutions to lose weight, to go on a healthier diet and to do regular workouts? Sad, but it is true that not many of us can stick to our decisions. Perhaps it might help if we realized why we need to remain fit. This can at least help us make better lifestyle choices.

The primary logic behind eating right and remaining physically active is that it helps us live a healthier and balanced life. The more you know about your specific health and fitness requirements, the better equipped you are to customize your diet and nutrition plan. When you do the right kind of exercises, you burn fat more efficiently and that takes care of your body weight and keeps you fit.

The scientific rationale behind eating right and exercising adequately is that when you do these, your body's metabolism increases and that prevents you from being lethargic as there is the right kind of energy to support all your activities. Every time you exercise your body improves its metabolic rate and subsequently there is an improvement of your body's stamina, aerobic capacity and overall fitness. But contrary to popular understanding, physical exercises need not be strenuous and energy-sapping. All you need to ensure is that you remain consistent with whatever physical workouts you do every day.

The most recommended fitness regimen includes doing some kind of cardio exercises regularly 4 times a week for about 20 to 30 minutes. This should be followed by resistance training, again 4 times a week for about 20 to 25 minutes per session. This is one of the most balanced exercise regimens which provide twin benefits: it burns fat and raises the oxygen level and it also increases lean body mass and effectively burns more calories.
